Drawing on long term field studies in Boreal and Austral regions, artist and researcher Antonin Pons Braley (b. 1988, France) composes an Archive of disappearance — an aesthetic and academic repertoire of inner and outer Norths. Considering in particular northern vegetal cover as both topographical languages as well as intimate landscapes, his Archive questions the milieu as matrix by exploring the conversion of man to his environment. With “Archiving research’’, Pons Braley introduces into his research-creation as a “continuous object’’, building upon images- and sound-projections, and invites the audience to take part in a multidisciplinary journey into his very research, at the same time a scientific ressource as well as an artistic body of work. Exhibited in major institutions including Paris Decorative Arts and Tokyo National Museum, Pons Braley is associate researcher at Imaginary North, International laboratory of compared multidisciplinary studies of the representations of North, and PhD Candidate in Studies and Practices of Arts, Université du Québec à Montréal.
The event will be followed by an informal discussion together with sound and video artist Lola Maria Muller, currently collaborating with Antonin Pons Braley on a soundscape of the research, of which a first piece will be presented at this occasion. Lydgalleriet is an exhibition platform for sound art in Bergen, Norway.
